How do my pictures sometimes come about?

As a geographer (originally a geographer), I've been photographing landscapes and geological phenomena for many years. On Curaçao, I became interested in stones arranged in a particular way. I found this photo particularly special because sometimes it's hard to understand how some stones stay in place. I imported the photo into Photoshop and began playing with colors. The form and content of the painting slowly emerged. I chose "A Precarious Balance" as the title. I usually paint with metaphors that allow the viewer and I to let our imaginations run wild.
In the first phase, the relief is constructed based on a rough sketch. I mark the desired height differences to add depth to the image. The materials I use are paste, sand, pebbles, and aluminum foil. After a few days of drying time, the painting begins. I use high-quality acrylic paints such as Ara and Lascaux.
The painting process is fascinating, as you spend hours finding the right composition, color gradient, and content. Finally, I apply a layer of matte clear varnish for protection.
