Matinee in the neighborhood

On May 11, 2024, there was an art afternoon in the Wijk. In a full living room there was a varied program.

I improvised on my painting 'life stream' on the grand piano during a beautiful house concert. Very exciting to do, because you don't know how it will go. Are you creative or does that skill fail you at that moment.

The canvas itself is very rough with paste and lots of sand mixed in. Cold and warm colours alternate. In the light part I added copper and gold paint to get more shine.

It symbolizes for me the course of life. It consists of different episodes. They form a multi-colored whole. In the painting you can see an alternation of warm and cold colors. Sometimes they also merge. Its shape is erratic and asymmetrical.

Depending on your own perception, you can give it a unique interpretation. You are automatically drawn to certain parts of the painting, in which recognition occurs.

In the improvisation I tried to let the diversity resonate.

The reactions afterwards were very positive. For example, someone said: 'Normally you don't stand still for very long at a painting in a museum. Now, because of the music, you look at a painting intensively for a few minutes and it stimulates your imagination'.

It was an extremely educational experience for me.
